My Chiropractor recommended I try the Power Vibe Zen Pro machine in his office when I was having muscle aches, especially in the upper back. After a couple of months using the Power Vibe (two times a week), my back, as well as, legs and upper body felt strengthened and I felt increased energy. At this point, my husband and I decided to purchase a Power Vibe for our home. From the start, the Power Vibe Company has been extremely helpful and supportive. They made the purchase and delivery process easy and efficient. And I feel so grateful that they have consistently and generously offered guidance and help with what WBV programs would be suited to my needs.

Right now, at age 75, after about eight months, I am exercising with the PV machine about four times a week. Last Spring I wanted to loose some weight and went on a diet. In about three months I lost eighteen pounds, which was easier and more successful than previous tries and it seems less an effort now to maintain the loss. I think the Power Vibe definitely plays a role in the weight loss process. After an exercise session on the Power Vibe, I feel energized and, at the same time, feel relaxed and always enjoy the session. In addition to the Power Vibe, I practice Hatha Yoga three times a week and walk about a mile and a half four times a week. The Power Vibe has certainly made a difference to me in ways I can see and I’m sure in less obvious areas like bone density and circulation.

It has long been recognized that people who carry their excess weight around their middles — those who are apple-shaped instead of pear-shaped — have a higher risk for heart attacks and strokes. Abdominal fat may produce substances that contribute to inflammation throughout the body. This is linked to a higher risk of disease. And, fat that collects around or near internal organs seems to pose a greater health risk than that which is just beneath the skin.

Having excess belly fat puts you at higher risk of:

• Type 2 diabetes

• High blood pressure

• Coronary artery disease

• High cholesterol and triglycerides

• Many other health conditions

In general, you’re in risky territory if your waistline measures more than: 40 inches for a man or 35 inches for a woman.

Hitting the floor for a flat-ab routine may sound like a fix. Crunches and sit-ups will give you stronger core muscles. But, they won’t cause you to lose abdominal fat any faster. Instead, plan for a slow, steady and overall weight loss. About ½ to 2 pounds a week is a safe and realistic goal for most people.

The most successful approach includes:

Regular aerobic exercise and strength training

Nutritious foods in reasonable portions

A support system, such as family and friends

Did you know?…Whole Body Vibration has been shown to be effective at increasing lean body mass, which improves resting metabolic rate and increases caloric expenditure, resulting in lower levels of body fat when combined with a reduced-calorie diet. Whole body vibration enhanced exercise training improves the flow of blood and oxygen to the tissues which enhances cell metabolism function. It balances hormone levels like cortisol or insulin resistance.

With WBV training, you can get a full body workout in just 10 minutes a day, 3‐5 days a week.

Need a weight loss plan? Nutritionist Susanne Bennett shares her tips for a successful weight loss success! Susanne is a PowerVibe customer and uses the Zen Pro in her practice.

Susanne Bennett
“There are many different steps in planning your goal of weight loss…”

1. Keep goals short-term… lose one to two pounds a week.
2. Write down your goal… and be specific.

One pound equates to 3,500 calories a day. To drop a pound in a week, cut out about 500 calories a day.

Susanne Bennett
“What is one pound of fat? It’s actually 3,500 calories. That means 35 divided by 7 — which is seven days a week — means 500-calories you’ve got to reduce a day. 500 calories would be… let’s say… a soda pop. Replace it with purified water and you start hydrating your cells with water. You’re going to lose weight.”

If you’re looking into supplements, Susanne recommends a soluble fiber formula, taken about 15-minutes before the largest meal, to fill you up and cut down on your absorption of calories.

She also recommends green tea with EGCG.

Susanne Bennett
“What is does is increases your metabolism. Our cells will burn more calories because it will increase in the metabolic rate.”

Susanne wants you to remember that weight loss takes time.

Susanne Bennett
“I personally like it when you lose about five pounds a month which means if you want to lose 20-pounds that’s going to take 4-months Give yourself a break. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”

Active-aging expert offers “e-tips” for attaining and maintaining health in 2011

(Vancouver-December 27, 2010) What’s the difference between the day before your birthday and the day after? “Practically speaking, nothing at all,” declares Colin Milner, CEO of the International Council on Active Aging (www.icaa.cc), a membership organization that brings together professionals in the independent and assisted living, fitness, rehabilitation and wellness fields to dispel society’s myths about aging..

“Whether you’re turning 30, 40, 50, 65, or 90, there’s no reason to assume you’re doomed to decline after a certain age—especially if you’re doing everything you can to stay healthy and active.”

Milner offers the following “E-tips” to help you extend a healthy life, or embark on one if you haven’t yet done so (citations available on request):

Expectations: If you’ve been following a healthy lifestyle up ’til now, simply keep going; if you need to make changes, anticipate succeeding, not failing—and don’t let age be a barrier. Research has shown that thinking positively about getting older can extend your life by as much as 7.5 years.

Enthusiasm: Few people are thrilled with every aspect of their lives, but many have at least one area—family, friends, work, avocation—they feel good about. Identify an activity or connection that sparks your enthusiasm and make it your lifeline; try to extend that enthusiasm to other areas of your life.

Energy: Having the energy and motivation you need to age well are hallmarks of healthy living. If you’re fatigued all the time, don’t let apathy and lethargy drag you down; get a checkup to try to determine the cause—and the solution.

Eating: Eating a balanced diet and attaining/maintaining a normal weight are keys to physical and mental health; if you need to lose weight or make changes in your diet, keep your expectations high—you can do it.

Exercise: Staying physically active fuels the body and mind. If you’re already exercising regularly, keep it up; if you’re getting started, know your skill level, set goals, progress at your own pace, and be consistent.

Engagement: Volunteers have higher levels of well-being and life satisfaction than those who don’t volunteer; volunteering and other forms of civic and social engagement can play an important role in maintaining good health in later life. “Get involved,” Milner urges.

Emotions: Everyone feels down at times, but full-blown depression is a major cause of disability. If you’re feeling out of sorts for two weeks or more, talk with your doctor or take an online screening test at www.mentalhealthscreening.org/. In many instances, simply exercising and eating right can change your mood.

8. Education: Life-long learning is important to living an independent and fulfilling life. Start now to learn a new area of knowledge or physical activity. It’s good for the brain.

9. Effort: Changing expectations and embarking on new behaviors take energy and effort, but the results are well worth it.

10. Enjoyment: A healthy life generally is a joyous one. “Savor the process of being or becoming active, engaged, and truly alive,” Milner enthuses.

“The new year is a great time to take stock and ask yourself, ‘where do I want to go from here?,’” Milner says. “Emphasize the positive and don’t let your age, or anyone else, deter you.”

A study that took place over a few years has just been completed had results that shocked doctors globally. Research showed that vibration exercise was 4 times as effective (4 times the weight-loss) as traditional exercise for weight-loss. Further, the vibration group kept the weight off 6 months after stopping using the vibration machine. The “diet only” and the “diet and exercise” group, all gained the weight back and more.

What this shows is that Vibration Exercise is able to reset the body allowing you to keep the weight off. These results although shocking to most have been known by many around the world that have been using vibration fitness for years. This group not only consists of everyday people but of many of the world’s best athletes in the NFL, NBA, Olympics and many of the celebrities in Hollywood.

The incredible stimulation of whole body vibration exercise delivers quick results. Oxygen rushes into cells, repair and regeneration quickly takes place and the body undergoes amazing rapid transformation. Maximum fat burning and weight loss can only be accomplished with proper nutrition, rest, and cardiovascular exercise in addition to strength and flexibility training with whole body vibration. Remember to gradually phase WBV into your life.

So what exactly are New Age Beverages? This is a new category within the Beverage Industry that covers the new style of beverages. This new “category” is growing and changing. Before only Energy Drinks and really new innovative beverages where part of the category. Now the category has evolved and you can include enhanced water, tea’s, diet drinks, iced coffee and really, any new drink.

Energy drinks are soft drinks advertised as boosting energy. These drinks usually do not emphasize energy derived from the calories they contain but rather through a choice of caffeine, vitamins, and herbal supplements the manufacturer has combined.

The average energy drink contains approximately the same amount of caffeine as a medium-sized cup of coffee. And, although both beverages provide boosts of energy, the “high” is short-lived.

Besides caffeine, most energy drinks contain more than 125 calories and over 30 carbohydrates (not to mention enough grams of sugar to rot your teeth.) These added ingredients are okay, in small quantities, but a “caffeine overdose” can produce nasty side effects. After consuming four or more of such beverages, nausea, agitation, and, in severe cases, seizures and heart palpitations may occur.

Energy drinks should not be confused with sports drinks such as Gatorade, which are consumed to help people stay hydrated during exercise. Sports drinks also provide carbohydrates in the form of sugar and electrolytes that may be lost through perspiration.

There are healthier solutions. There are several things you can do to help fight fatigue, such as exercising, eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Nutrition plays a big role in energy levels, so be sure you are eating a well-balanced diet. Also get plenty of sleep!

Recent scientific research has shown that almost 70% of the population is suffering from dehydration, as a result of drinking coffee and alcohol, smoking, stress and not drinking enough water. This means that a lot of people do not have enough fluids in their bodies. Over 50% of our body consists of water, which is why the fluid balance is of utmost importance. This is augmented by diets where people are encouraged to eat less, which will decrease the amount of fluids taken in even further. This group should in fact drink a lot more water.

Training on a whole body vibration device causes an enormous activation of the lymphatic system that will result in a loss of body fluids. WBV training does more than just build strength or increase metabolism. It also detoxifies your internal organs and cells. As your metabolism increases, cells begin to function better again and they start to expel accumulated wastes and toxins. This waste gets deposited into the blood stream and then gets processed by the liver, kidneys, large intestines, skin and lungs. This kind of detoxification can cause feelings of fatigue, exhaustion, headaches, nausea, and flu‐like symptoms. If you experience these symptoms, you now know that this is actually a good sign. It’s a sign that the body is releasing toxins and is on its way to recovery.

You can help this process of detoxification by making sure that you are sufficiently hydrated before and after your whole body vibration work‐outs. I recommend drinking ½ of your body weight in ounces of water per day. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, drink 80 ounces of water every day.

It is estimated that about 60% of the diseases in the world today are probably vitamin D-3 deficiency based. It has been well established that most people in the U.S. and around the world are vitamin D-3 deficient.

In the last 10 years a whole new science has come about of the effects of the hormone known as vitamin D-3 on the body. D-3 is has been referred to as a hormone rather than a vitamin. D-3 impacts your heart, organs and most every tissue and cell in your body. D3 targets more than 2,000 genes in the body. That’s 10 percent of the total number of genes in the human body. Deficiencies have been implicated in at least 17 different cancer types, cardiovascular disease, birth defects, and more.

Further research has found additional medicinal benefits of vitamin D in the prevention or treatment of serious diseases. Researchers at the Mayo Clinic found that deficiencies were linked to autoimmune conditions (such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and diabetes). Vitamin D doesn’t just play a role in specific diseases and disorders; it affects the body in many ways. People suffering from vitamin D deficiency have a more difficult time with pain management. Plus deficiencies have been linked to Cancer, Parkinson’s disease, Depression, and other health issues.

Vitamin D-3 is thought to be the most impactful and wide reaching nutrient for your body. The sun’s rays are UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays. But only the UVB rays are vitamin D producing when they hit your skin. The fear of skin cancer has stopped many individuals from obtaining beneficial amounts of sunlight.

Did you know that everyone living north of 35° latitude will get no UVB rays between the months of November through March because of the angle of the sun? Two/thirds of the U.S and all of Canada are above the 35° latitude mark. The equator is at 0° latitude and gets the benefit of the highest level of the sun’s UVB rays, whereas the North Pole is at 90° latitude and gets the least benefit.

We do not get the same amount of UVB rays year round. As the seasons change, so does the angle of the sun’s rays. In the summer, with the sun directly overhead, we get the maximum number of UVB rays. As the season moves toward winter, we get fewer and fewer rays and in the winter, if you live in 35° latitude and above, you will get no UVB rays at all.

Have you had your dose of vitamin D-3 today? Get out and enjoy that summer sun!

Whole body vibration can be a great tool to help you lose weight. Recent studies have shown that acceleration training offers a 57% improvement in weight loss compared to conventional exercise and nutrition alone.

Vibration training is becoming more and more popular. When you incorporate the use of a whole body vibration machine into your regular health and fitness regimen, you can lose weight. Not only will you experience weight loss, but you will have a faster metabolism, tighter muscles, and a more attractive body. Whole body vibration machines also improve your flexibility, range of motion, and circulation.

When using a whole body vibration machine, your muscles can contract 20-50 times per second based on the Hertz setting of the machine. This contraction causes your body to work harder and burn more calories with basic exercises than you would normally doing floor exercises.

Whole Body vibration will help you build lean mass by performing exercises and various moves to target different regions throughout your body.

See the information below from a study funded by the Artesis University College of Antwerp, Belgium.

“In this study we demonstrated that adding aerobic exercise or whole body vibration (WBV) to a hypocaloric diet can help to maintain weight loss. Moreover, the addition of WBV seems to initiate an even larger loss of visceral adipose tissue (VAT). “

This study shows that combining whole body vibration training with caloric restriction can help to achieve a sustained long-term weight loss of 5–10%. This data shows that WBV training may have the potential to reduce VAT more than aerobic exercise in obese adults, possibly making it a meaningful addition to future weight loss programs.

The latest in fitness is to do your workout in as little amount of time as possible. This seems very sensible. And it would inspire those who don’t exercise now to find that they can exercise 10-15 minutes and get the benefits of a one hour workout. This smart move doesn’t mean you are getting less of a workout. It means you are using your time better. You just need to use the right tools and routines. Circuit training is one way to accomplish more in less time. Circuit training is doing 4-6 different exercises that reach different muscles without any rest time between exercises. Most of these exercises are weight training but you may also do some running in place or jumping jacks in between. Not only do you save time but studies have even shown you get a better workout.

By adding Whole Body Vibration you get even more benefits. Just stand on the vibrating platform and do your compound exercises. The body automatically reacts to the vibrations, making your workout more effective. It produces a stretch reflex, the tonic vibratory reflex, which, depending on the selected frequency, results in muscles gently contracting 6 to 50 times per second. Vibration training is low impact and gentle, enabling anyone, regardless of their age or fitness levels to use it. You can get the benefits of exercise without putting strain on joints or bones in a much shorter amount of time.

Compared with traditional training methods, WBV achieves the same physiologic results of exercise, just at a faster and more efficient rate!
