When can vibrations be harmful?

July 23rd, 2010

These days there is a lot of media attention and scientific research aimed at the effects of vibration training on the human body. Our body was made for movement. We have been perfectly equipped to absorb all of the vibrations we are confronted with in our daily lives.

However, the amount of mechanical vibrations we are exposed to has increased enormously over the last few centuries. Truck drivers, forklift drivers, construction workers and helicopter pilots absorb a lot of vibration on a daily basis. The complaints they suffer, mainly in joints and spine, cause tremendous problems.

There are some fundamental differences between vibration exposures » Read more: When can vibrations be harmful?

Weight Loss benefits with Whole Body Vibration

June 23rd, 2010

Whole body vibration can be a great tool to help you lose weight.  Recent studies have shown that acceleration training offers a 57% improvement in weight loss compared to conventional exercise and nutrition alone.

Vibration training is becoming more and more popular.  When you incorporate the use of a whole body vibration machine into your regular health and fitness regimen, » Read more: Weight Loss benefits with Whole Body Vibration

Lymphatic System benefits with Whole Body Vibration

June 2nd, 2010

The lymphatic system has been recognized by doctors for its importance to preventative healthcare.  Lymphatic function supports every other system in the body, including the immune, digestive, detoxification, and nervous systems.  Many believe that poor lymph health is the underlying cause of a lot of conditions, from cellulite to cancer.

The lymphatic system has no central pump but depends on muscle contraction and manual manipulation to move fluid. Deep breathing is another way we can enhance movement of lymph through our bodies.

You have twice as much lymph fluid in your body as blood. The lymph continuously flows to each cell and drains away the debris in a circulatory system powered only by your breathing and muscle contractions. If the movement of the lymph stopped entirely you would die in a matter of hours.  Whole Body Vibration stimulates the muscles to contract and relax at a very fast rate just by standing on the platform.

Whole Body Vibration: Fastest Growing Fitness Sector in the US

May 28th, 2010

Whole Body Vibration is sweeping across the USA from Europe and is now commonly used by doctors and physicians to treat patients.  Vibration machines are now becoming the world’s top trainer’s key training tool.

Whole Body Vibration (WBV) technology originated in Europe and has been an evolving technology for the past 50 years. Sweden, Italy, Germany, and Russia have contributed immensely to the progression of WBV research and development for the purposes of fitness and rehabilitation. Many scientific research studies have been performed which validate the benefits of WBV with respect to » Read more: Whole Body Vibration: Fastest Growing Fitness Sector in the US

Whole Body Vibration Activates Natural Stretch Reflex

May 11th, 2010

Whole Body Vibration stimulates the body’s natural stretch reflex and causes muscle contractions in much the same way that a doctor’s tapping below a patient’s patella with a reflex hammer elicits a knee-jerk response. The stretch reflex is controlled by stretch receptors called muscle spindles that are located in skeletal muscle. Muscle spindles are usually activated when a muscle is under a static stretch or is quickly stretched or overstretched, causing a reflex contraction of the muscle. With whole body vibration (WBV), this reflex action is continually stimulated, so a muscle continues to contract and relax until the vibration stops.  Studies have reported that activation of one muscle spindle will cause a reflex contraction and relaxation in many adjacent muscles.

WBV training contracts virtually 100% of the muscle fibers of any particular muscle, whereas weight resistance training only fires » Read more: Whole Body Vibration Activates Natural Stretch Reflex

Benefits of Yoga with Whole Body Vibration

May 4th, 2010

Yoga means union of body and mind and you probably know what sets it apart from stretching or your physical exercise routine:  the deep and distinct connection with your breath.  Regular yoga practice has been shown to prevent middle-age spread in people of healthy weight and promote weight loss in those who are overweight.

Almost any position from a yoga or fitness class can be performed on a whole body vibration platform, and Yoga postures are usually held for a minute or two to allow time to focus on alignment. » Read more: Benefits of Yoga with Whole Body Vibration

Detoxification with Whole Body Vibration

April 21st, 2010

Whole body vibration training does more than just build strength or increase metabolism. It also detoxifies your internal organs and cells. As your metabolism increases, cells begin to function better again and they start to expel accumulated wastes and toxins. This waste gets deposited into the blood stream and then » Read more: Detoxification with Whole Body Vibration

Whole Body Vibration and the Central Nervous System

March 26th, 2010

As WBV continues to evolve, more interesting uses and positive benefits are regularly being discovered.

Effects of WBV on the central nervous system have become a very hot topic recently.

Research studies have already shown positive results in patients with incomplete spinal cord injuries.  These subjects showed improvement in walking speed, cadence, step length and consistency of intra-limb coordination after only one month of WBV therapy.

It is believed that further research in these areas could lead to relevance in using WBV for:

  • Pain management
  • Neuroendocrine function
  • Mood alteration
  • Memory
  • Improvement of efficiency and strength of the neurophysical pathways through the body.

The benefits and applications of WBV are almost limitless.

Incorporating Whole Body Vibration into your Training Routine

March 18th, 2010

WBV is great for people who have difficulty training because of old age, illness, disorders, weight or injury. It is also incredible for athletes who want to stimulate and strengthen their muscles without stress on joints.

WBV training depends on both the frequency and intensity of the vibrations. The higher the hertz setting, the more the muscles and the brain have to contract in order to appropriately adjust to the movement of the platform. This increase in hertz can lead to a more powerful training effect in some circumstances.

It is recommended that you » Read more: Incorporating Whole Body Vibration into your Training Routine
