Simplicity is key

September 14th, 2009

Different WBV manufacturers’ series of products provides a complete line of vibration therapy systems that are designed to be used both in the home and in a doctor’s office.  The small footprint of these systems (smaller by far than most home gyms) makes them ideal for use in rooms with limited space.  WBV needs no special wiring or other accommodations.  Plug them in, learn how to use them, and they provide almost immediate therapeutic value.

Most users who can take a step up a normal step need no special assistance to stand on a WBV system.  Thought there are a number of models, most of them look like a bathroom scale with a tower and handles.  » Read more: Simplicity is key

Vibration Therapy & Aging Baby Boomers

September 10th, 2009

As we all know, those of us who are baby boomers are approaching the age where regular exercise is both increasingly vital and increasingly hard to maintain. Aging bodies need exercise to fend off the ravages of aging, and yet because of that very aging process, effective exercise becomes more challenging.  Often, going to a gym or other organized exercise program is not a viable option, and as a result the much needed exercise is not obtained, accelerating the aging process. But there is a solution.

Our aging citizens often give up trying to stay fit, believing that their bodies can no longer stay strong and their activities need to be limited to prevent injury or damage to expensive and delicate prosthesis.  This can be depression, since these folks have spent their whole lives living independently and self-reliantly.  In short, these folks often give up on fitness.  » Read more: Vibration Therapy & Aging Baby Boomers

Dr. Mercola’s Comments on Whole Body Vibration

August 19th, 2009

Is a Vibration Platform Right for You?

The vibration platforms originate from research conducted during the 1960s space race. They work on the principle that if muscles are exercised while being shaken, they activate neighboring muscle fibers, hence building mass faster.

I first encountered this whole body vibration (WBV) technology in 2006, at which time I contacted one of the top personal trainers in the Chicago area, Tony Bruno — an expert on muscle activation techniques – for his input on this approach.

Tony felt the technology was great and had been proven to improve proprioception, strength and balance, and decrease sway in the elderly, and found it especially beneficial in rehab to increase circulation. » Read more: Dr. Mercola’s Comments on Whole Body Vibration

Holistic Health & Wellness Expo (Fort Worth, TX)

August 17th, 2009

Last weekend Power Vibe attended an excellent holistic health and wellness expo in Fort Worth, TX.  There were people of all ages and fitness levels.  From young to old and everyone in between, attendees couldn’t get enough of our Whole Body Vibration equipment.

Most people were intrigued by this interesting looking contraption and a few had even heard of it before.  Like most people in the U.S. the main thing people remembered about seeing Whole Body Vibration in the past was that it was outrageously expensive.  Everyone was surprised that Power Vibe has such good quality units at amazingly affordable prices.  Some people even took one home with them because they couldn’t resist the urge to take advantage of only needing 10 minutes a day to exercise. » Read more: Holistic Health & Wellness Expo (Fort Worth, TX)

Regular Physical Activity is Essential for Healthy Aging

August 12th, 2009

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recently had a feature on Strengthening Activities and Older Adults.

When people age, they lose muscle.  Thus, muscle strengthening activities can provide many health benefits especially as you age.  According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, older adults gain substantial health benefits from 2 hours and 30 minutes a week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity in combination with muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week.

A brisk walk is enough for the aerobic activity.  When doing muscle strengthening be sure to focus on all seven major muscle groups:

  1. Legs
  2. Hips
  3. Back
  4. Abdomen
  5. Chest
  6. Shoulders
  7. Arms

August 3rd, 2009

This is a question that gets asked quite often.  And believe it or not, most people do not know there are actually 3 different types of Whole Body Vibration.  You should have a better understanding of these main types by the end of this read.  Many companies do not want people to know what you are about to read.

The most popular is vertical, meaning the platform moves in a uniform motion vertically straight up and down.  There are other names that some companies have developed such as tri-dimensional or cWBV (controlled WBV) but they all boil down to the same type of movement.  The reason this type of equipment is most popular is because it is the one that is best for » Read more: Different Types of Whole Body Vibration
