Reiki- An Ancient Healing Art

April 22nd, 2010

Reiki, pronounced “ray-key” is a Japanese word that means universal life force energy. This universal life force energy is all around us. All living things are composed of this energy.  A reiki practitioner focuses the universal life force energy on a person’s body using specific hand positions. The client is fully clothed and should wear loose comfortable clothing. Reiki’s gentle, relaxing energy can be used to promote healing and balance of the body’s energies, relieve stress and fatigue, and help with emotional issues. Reiki permeates all levels of one’s being – restoring “wholeness” to Mind, Body and Spirit. One of Reiki’s many principles is to respect the oneness of all life.

Reiki is an ancient healing art that is a gentle, non-invasive, natural treatment method. Its origins are ancient Tibetan; it was rediscovered in the late 1800s by Japanese educator Dr. Mikao Usui.  It has no religious affiliation and requires no special belief system or ability to be effective. Reiki works on all levels (physical, spiritual, mental and emotional) and compliments and enhances all other treatment methods.

Reiki is a technique that addresses both chronic and acute conditions, gently and powerfully promoting the normal regenerative processes of the body and mind as well as harmony among all the body’s systems. Ex-high school athlete uses Whole Body Vibration to help people with disabilities

August 11th, 2009

Consider this: You are a 6′6″ 18 year old high school football and basketball star and everything is going your way.  Then, in a gymnastics accident you break your neck and suffer a debilitating spinal cord injury.

Some might crumble with disappointment, but others rise up and take charge of their life.  In 1993 this was Brian Sheridan’s reality.

Sheridan did not only continue competing in sports, he also went on to graduate from college, become a registered occupational therapist, and start a number of nonprofit and for-profit businesses that help people with disabilities.  Of spinal cord injuries  Sheridan says “There is no cure.  Recovery needs to be comprehensive – mind, body and spirit.”
